1block Firm tofu around 400g - Cut into to strips
¼cupPlain flour
¼cupCorn flour
1cupPanko
½tsp5 spice powder
or other spices if required
Salt and pepper to taste
2 -3cupsOil For frying
Sauces to serve: sweet chilli sauceBBQ, mayo, etc
Instructions
Method:
Step1: Prepare the tofu
Drain the tofu.
Pat dry tofu and cut into strips. Pat dry again.
Season the strips with salt and pepper, or your favourite seasoning.
Step 2: Prepare the batter
Mix the flours and some salt and pepper with about 150ml of water. It should.be a bit thick.
Mix well until no lumps and set aside
Step 3: Prepare the coating
Mix the panko with the 5-spice powder, salt and pepper
Step 4: Fry the tofu
Heat the cooking oil to180C.
Coat the tofu strips with the batter.
Remove and coat with the panko.
Deep-fry until golden brown.
Remove with a slotted spoon, drain and place on paper towels to absorb the excess oil.
Serve with your favourite dips / sauces
