Penang Nyonya Chicken Curry

This Friday Night Take Away will be a blessing to your busy day. Some of you might be working now, and are as busy as before the lock-down. Cooking  up a meal when you get home is the last thing you want to do. You can collect the Penang Nyonya Chicken Curry on your way home and have a tasty meal in the comfort of  your own home. There is no need to hurry as we have Chicken Curry, all ready!

So take a break, have a ready meal and save  your energy for the weekend.

This is the go-to curry when we have curry in our home. Just a note: Penang Nyonya curry is very different to the curries you get here. There is no cream, no milk, and no overly thick gravy. In fact the gravy is a bit watery by the usual  Indian standard. We use coconut milk in all our curries, hence it tastes naturally sweet. There is not added sugar. In fact, when made with fresh coconut milk, the sweetness is more pronounced. However, since we cannot get fresh,  tinned ones will do.

Penang curry has Indian, Malay and Thai influence. Like Thai curry, we use lemon grass and gelangal, which is a type of ginger. Of course the spices are of Malay and Indian influences. Curry leaves, a type of leaf, is the main Indian influence. It gives the curry a distinct aroma.

If you are looking for an aromatic curry, you have come to the right place.

A word about the heat: I make this curry of medium heat ( according to my standard, with the feedback of my daughter who cannot take too much heat!)

How to enjoy

Use a fork and spoon with the meal.
or, eat with your hands!
Spoon the curry on your rice and enjoy it with the Chicken, potato, vegetable and salad.
Then have a cuppa with the muffin

This meal contains gluten, ( in the and cake), lemon grass, garlic, onions and spices.

This kitchen handles nuts.

How it works

I am putting as many precautions in place as is possible. Please don’t come out if you have any Covid-19 symptoms.
When you get near to here, give me a ring and park in front of the house or near the house and stay in your car, or ring the door bell (since the lock down has eased a bit) I will come out with the prepacked meals put it in the back seat or the boot.

Hainanese Chicken Rice Dinner

This was our first event and the Host made us most welcome (we were a bit early at their house) and the other 4 guests (that we did not know at all) were a good bunch as we had Great food and good conversation at the table. There was plenty of food and the Soup was Superb (best ever) and the Desert idea was novel and tasty.

Lorbak Dinner

This was our first supper with WeFiFo and Loretta made us very welcome. We were a group of three friends. Loretta cooked a delicious three course Malaysian meal and taught us the correct way to use chopsticks for the noodles. The main course was Lorbak; a pork dish and family favourite that Loretta had learned to cook as a child with her mother. Loretta joined us at the table and told us many stories about food and life in Malaysia. She is a witty host and a first class cook. In summary- a super evening, well worth the money, making new friends over superb food.

Penang Hainanese Chicken Rice Dinner

Loretta was so very welcoming and the perfect host from the minute we walked through the door we were made to feel at home and with friends. The Penang Hainanese Chicken Rice was to die for, I could have easily eaten my own body weight of it, it came with two dips and both of them were utterly delish – so much so that Loretta had to refill up the bowls twice! Loretta served a clear soup that was delicate, full of favour and like nothing I have ever tasted before. One of the vegetable side dishes was marinated lettuce – seriously this was a triumph – who knew that this humble vegetable could be expertly cooked in such a way. Dessert was a sublime chocolate and pistachio brownie, gooey and warm, served with fresh raspberries and ice cream. Please don’t miss the opportunity to let Loretta wow you with her skill, talent and stories of life growing up in Malaysia, a very enjoyable evening.
